Hanoi to Siem Reap. We had a leisurely breakfast in the executive lounge of the hotel with its super views over the lake and Temple, a really magical view despite some pollution but not as bad as on our previous stay here.
At 10 am, we were taken to the airport in a very comfortable car and had a two hour wait for our flight to Siem Reap. What we had not realised was that we had to get off the plane at Luang Probang and then get back on it so we were not too amused when we found out. But we were only in the lounge there for 5 to 10 minutes before we were called back on. Prior to this there have been a nasty announcement after a bit of a sudden crisis with the aircraft that there would be a 15 minute circle due to problems at airport control : the truth or not?. Well, it certainly wasn’t a problem with the aircraft but I did not enjoy those 15 minutes.
We landed eventually at Siem Reap soon after 4 pm and there was a hotel transport to take us into the town. The hotel, Avani, was very pleasant, and we had a room overlooking the pool where I had a lovely swim before it got dark. Then some reading before a snack supper on the balcony followed by a coffee. Reading and then we went for a cocktail. The hotel had an earth to earth day, an hour with low lights on between 8.30 and 9.30. This seemed a bit stupid to us, especially as when we got back to the room all the room lights were still on. It was just walking in the corridors that we’ve had to tread carefully by candlelight.
