Accra

We drove to Madrid, leaving Moraira at 04.30. It was the only way to catch the Accra flight from LHR without staying overnight en-route. From Madrid we did have Business Class to London, a short transfer at Heathrow, for reasons unknown BA fly their Ghana flights from Terminal 3, not Terminal 5 from which most of their flights operate, including our incoming flight from Madrid. Business Class seemed to be packed with punters on their way to join the Silver Cloud - not that many flights to Accra, so not too surprising

I had arranged a pick up by the hotel from Accra Airport, which was there, but not without its difficulties, as another couple were squeezed with us into the taxi. But as they said everywhere "This is Africa". It was a short ride to Labadi Beach Hotel .( 8.4 on on Booking.com ) getting into the hotel around 22.00, so it was straight to bed.

My problem here, that impinged on our enjoyment of the hotel, was the strong mildew smell that permeated the room and corridor. I mentioned it to everybody, but there seemed to be nobody in charge to take responsibility, or even apologize. The bathroom is odd, and appears to be endemic to all this hotel's bathrooms, that when you shower, the bathroom floor is flooded. This is not helping the smell of damp carpets, as water flows out of the bathroom onto the bedroom carpet. And it is expensive. But you do get good security, and (reasonably) well trained staff. Plus a pool and grounds and a beach area. I suspect that this is as good as Accra hotels get .

We assembled in the lobby from the Silversea bus to the ship. Our cases went back and forth 5 times from reception to loading area and back, before getting loaded onto a luggage truck. We sat in the bus 30 minutes, then set off, 20 minutes later the bus passed the hotel again - I never did find out why this odd occurrence happened - perhaps the driver was just lost, as he had then no idea how to enter the docks and find the Silver Cloud
