We went ashore at Hope Point around 10 am, slightly later than predicted , due to having to reposition to the other side of the spit due to swell.
Once ashore we eventually set off in a large group with our guide, a former mayor , fireman and policeman of the community, as our guide: he had problems walking and used a quad bike , while we all walked. The quad bike made listening to him on the quietvox quite difficult with the roar of the quad bike all the time.
It was a long walk to town via a cemetery full of whalebones, these being used as grave markers

Once in town, well over a mile from the zodiacs beaching point, we were shown the various buildings and provided with a hotdog outside the local store. The local people were carrying balloons apparently as a thank you to the services provided by the store: I had thought it was in our honour . We then did a circle tour of the town, the most notable building being an immense school.

Then it was a long trek back to the zodiacs again and halfway along a local lady with her niece aboard, offered me a lift on her quad bike, which I readily accepted. David insured that we boarded a zodiac on the correct side in order not get drenched by the swell and this worked out excellently

Back aboard soon after 12.30 we had lunch in the dining room and then I had a swim and Jacuzzi before going down, hopefully for bridge but only one other person turned up. There was the "traditional Polar Plunge" - you had to sign a waver to take part, in case you died

So I then read in the cabin until 4 pm when we had a light tea and then went to a session in the show lounge entitled questions and answers with the expedition staff. Six of the expedition staff took part in this, compèred by Ryan

Then at 6 pm there was the captains farewell and crew parade: not billed any more as a captains dinner, but they did provide canopies at this. Unfortunately, Chloe presented it and went on for ages in her overpowering voice telling us what a super cruise we had had how we had seen a tremendous number of animals, et cetera et cetera. Eventually she introduced the captain and from then on it was a lovely occasion for Chris with all the crew coming down the steps and also a resume of the two winners of the cruise show.

We had our usual canapes in the panorama lounge and then our last dinner in La Terrassa before retiring to the Dolce Vita lounge for coffee, Chloe hogging the Panorama lounge with her trivia.
