Sept 7 at Edinburgh Island

We went ashore at 8:30 am for a medium hike on Edinburgh Island. Although seemingly flat the terrain was very boggy and bumpy and Chris found it quite challenging. An Arctic Hare was spotted high up on the cliffs and Chris saw it with her binoculars. We were given the option to continue further up the hill but Chris decided to sit on a rock and wait for the adventurous ones to return. This was permitted as Sarah was around to monitor us but then her group returned from the track up the hill and I was told I could no longer stay there alone but could follow David up the hill even though, he had departed with the rest at least 10 minutes earlier: absurd. My walk back to the beach was much easier anyway and I waited for David there before we boarded the zodiac back to the ship

On the way back to the ship David spotted the North Warning site PIN-DA on Edinburgh Island

Aa pleasant lunch And then Bridge with three others, Barbara, Sue and Hannah . We played for 90 minutes before returning to the cabin to read for an hour. Then afternoon tea and more reading before the recap and briefing: once again these supposed recap talks were just designed to get laughs and had nothing to do with culture or history, even though there were four of them. We realised that we just returned to Silver Sea because the crew was so good even though the expedition staff were going downhill all the time

A very pleasant dinner with quite a long chat to Ali the sommelier who thought David was wonderful. It was a super meal. But spoiled at the end by listening to "majority rules" with Chloe which really showed how middle of the market, the Silver Sea clientele had become.

On to Sept 8
