Aug 27 at Sisimiut, Greenland

Arrived at Sisimiuit soon after dawn. We went ashore by zodiac for an adventure hike that seemed possible to us.

But after walking quite a long way through town we started up hilly terrain but soon encounted slippery boulders and Chris decided that this was not for her so we stopped and walked back through town. Then Chris had the idea that we could possibly go aboard the new Silver Sea ship, the Silver Endevour ,that was in port at this time. So we just chanced our luck and persuaded Ivan the security man on board , who knew us from previous voyages, to call up the hotel director who in turn called up the staff captain and they decided we could go on board. The chief Butler gave us a tour of this very modern ship . The thing that impressed Chris was the swimming pool that disappeared during most of the day into the restaurant floor. so probably not too useful for swimming. The restaurant was also much more modern than that on the Silver Wind

After this we got the zodiac back to the ship and we were in time to hear Hedda’s lecture on glaciology. Lunch in the restaurant was followed by a swim in a sunny period with blue skies Then had a coffee in the panorama lounge before disembarking again down the gangway, as our ship was now alongside in the position that the Endeavour had occupied. We then enjoyed a cultural walk of the town at quite a brisk pace, lead by a mature gentleman who worked for the government and IT. We enjoyed this which lasted for, an hour and a half. We ended up having a tasting of local foods which included whale meat , dried cod , Musk Ox and other dried fish.

Back on board way went to a lecture by an Inuit lady, Leslie, who was on board for some days. Later there was recap and briefing. After this, we had two tiramisu cocktails before dinner in the Terassa. Finally, we adjourned to the lounge and listened, to some of Chloe’s "name this tune" until it became completely absurd to us.

On to Aug 28
