The strange things I do: we then bought a run down semi palacial manor, Kirkby Fleetham Hall, near Northallerton in North Yorkshire. It had been owned by the Courage brewing family, and years of living beyond their means had left the building in a very sad and sorry state. But it had possibilities, and we went from the 7 bedrooms we opened with , to 11 and eventually 21. We renovated the row of 4 cottages in the grounds. And had started on the big stable block, when I realised that it was becoming to big for us to manage without a lot more staff. So at that point we sold it
