Hélène Royer and her husband, Jean, returned home after running restaurants in the US to spend a decade doing up this lovely farmhouse just outside Condom, but she never stopped cooking. Even breakfast features a different home-baked product each day. There is a large terrace out front, a small breakfast patio further back and a relaxed atmosphere. Hélène is a walking guidebook and will supply as many local tips as a guest requires. Even if you book one of the self-catering apartments, make sure to try her table d’hôte at least once: America’s loss is definitely Gascony’s gain.

Coming from Bordeaux take the exit 6 Aiguillon/Nérac. Follow the direction for Lavardac then for Nérac. In Nérac, take the direction for Condom. Arriving from Toulouse, take the exit 7 Agen/Condom/Nérac. Follow the direction for Pau / Condom. From Condom Take the direction Eauze-Pau/D931. Pass the wine-making cooperative, follow for 3 kms up to the Restaurant “L’Ocale”, continue 300m and take the path right of the panel “Les Bruhasses”. Continue 300m up to the entrance of the park
