Concarneau has two distinct areas: the modern town on the mainland and the medieval Ville Close, a walled town on a long island in the centre of the harbour. Historically, the old town was a centre of shipbuilding; its ramparts date from the 14th century. The Ville Close is now devoted to tourism with many restaurants and shops aimed at tourists. However restraint has been shown in resisting the excesses of souvenir shops. The Ville Close is connected to the town by a bridge and at the other end a ferry to the village of Lanriec on the other side of the harbour.

A sleepy day with sore eye as at sea. Lectures by Jess on Fantastic Ferns and by Carol Bell on where tin had come from back in the Bronze Age, Cornwall.
Two tables for Bridge for about 100 minutes..after this a long afternoon with only a Briefing. Woke up later on and we enjoyed a pisco sour on the back deck and then dinner outside in the Terraza.

The ship anchored off Bel Isle at 7 am but then at the last minute zodiac operations were halted due to the swell. So it was a day of doing nothing, just 2 games of Trivia and another team game.
The ship did reposition to Quiberon during lunch, but the swell was also bad there, I was able to read quite well in the sunshine of the back deck. Ended up eating with Mike and Cathy , with two expensive wines bought by Mike

Anchored off Concarneau and went ashore at 8 for a tour to Pont Aven, about a 30 minute ride..Ponte Aven was extremely picturesque and had harboured painters such as Gauguin. It brought to my mind the sort of little villages that are in the Cotswolds. We bought half a local cake, which we ate a third of on the coach back.

Then back to the medieval city of Concarneau and a guided walk there, before wandering around by ourselves outside the walls and along the. Coast. Eventually we chose a restaurant garden inside the walls and had the most gigantic dish of delicious mussels with a glass of the local cider.
