We go up Taipei 101 to enjoy the view

Then walk to Chaing Kai-Shek Memorial

3 Dec Keelung, Taiwan

Got Uber to Keelung Eastern Terminal #4 , and met Expedition Team for check-in. Board Coral Geographer, settle into our cabin, and set sail. 

It was blowing a real gale, and the ship was tossing badly. This continued through the night. The captains low speed - 85 miles in 13 hours did not help the stabilisers to function

4 Dec Su'ao, Taiwan

This morning, we arrived at Su’ao on the east coast of Taiwan.

  • Partake in a tea-picking and tea-tasting experience at Yilan Xing Yuan Tea Farm. A family business
  • Enjoy a local buffet lunch at the National Centre for Traditional Arts
  • End the day in Su’ao with a visit to Kavalan whisky distillery for a look at how Kavalan pioneered the art of single malt whisky in Yilan County, followed by a tasting

7 Dec Palaui Island, Philippines

The decommissioned 19th-century Faro de Cabo Engaño Lighthouse on Palaui Island was built during the Spanish colonial period.

Ascend to the lighthouse for spectacular views across to the Dos Hermanas Islands. A 300-stair path up to the lighthouse.

9 Dec Jomalig Island. Portillo Islands

An abortive attempt to land in the morming, which failed because of the waves crashing on the beach, Landed sucessfully after lunch

11 Dec Biri Eco Park The main source of income for the island is danggit (little dried fish). A range of local transport to Danggit village and walked the experiential circuit. The 300-hectare La Laguna Eco Park is endowed with mangroves and waters teeming with varied fish species. Wandered the boardwalks, then climbed to a view point
12 Dec Higatangan Island

Spent the day exploring traditional medicine techniques, village fishing net-making, shipbuilding, and painting.

Took local transport to the island’s highest point for spectacular views across the Visayan Sea before enjoying a local seafood boodle lunch under the shade of aged beechwood trees.

13 Dec Mambajao & Mantique Island.

Camiguin is known as the “Island Born of Fire,” with seven volcanoes that shaped its unique landscape. A steep climb to a viewpoint. The back down to cool at the spectacular Katibawasan Falls, a 70-metre cascade offering swimming and scenic views.

14 Dec Bohol

Visit the Tarsier Conservatory to see the world’s smallest primate, which is only slightly bigger than a mango and is considered a near-threatened species.

Board a riverboat for a cruise along the picturesque Loboc River while enjoying a buffet-style lunch of local delicacies, accompanied by local musicians. Moor up against a floating platform where local villagers in traditional costumes perform a lively song-and-dance performance

From the viewpoint lookout, admire the cacao-coloured Chocolate Hills with their symmetrical mounds.

15 Dec Cuatros Islas Meaning ‘four islands’ in Spanish, Cuatros Islas is a group of small islands, three of which are inhabited and rarely visited by locals and tourists alike. They are an idyllic location for a full day of relaxing and water activities, including snorkelling, diving, kayaking, and cruising around the tropical paradise by Xplorer.
16 Dec Maripipi Visit the townships of Agutay and Casibang. Tasted local delicacies and saw in the weaving of wild vines and century-old pottery-making techniques. Known as the ‘Isle of Gems’ for its clear waters and white sand beaches. We spent the afternoon on picturesque Sambawan Island, which had an easy walk to the island’s 360° viewpoint.
17 Dec Day at Sea  
18 Dec Marinduque

In Marinduque, locals participate in a unique version of the crucifixion of Christ, called the Mariones Festival, wearing heavy wooden masks and thick handmade armour. We saw the carvers who makes these unique cultural artefacts and learn about the ‘suffering’ of Christ as perceived by the Marinduquians.

Later we visited the local cathedral and town square with 1930s architecture, followed by our last cruise in the Xplorer before departing for Manila.

19 Dec Manila

Our voyage ended in the Philippines capital of Manila. Disembark Coral Geographer and taken to airport
