Sep 17/18 Anchorage to Frankfurt to Moraira

Anchorage to home. We went down to breakfast in the hotel at 9:30 and were sorely disappointed: it was the worst breakfast we had had for many a year and reception confirmed afterwards that this was what Silver Sea had ordered. The huge dining room itself was reminiscent of Chinese hotels. Also we were thrown out at 10 am even though the Silver Sea letter had said the breakfast run until 11 am.

We left the hotel room at 11 and checked our luggage in with the bellboy, then sat in the bar area with loud music. After about half an hour, we went out for a walk And revisited Resolution Park with the statue of James Cook also went round the James Cook hotel another time with its interesting shops and finally walked up to see Star, the reindeer, in his pen on one corner of the park.

Back to the hotel and the one p.m. bus . It arrived quite early, with eight of us getting into it. Anchorage airport was quite pleasant and we boarded our flight to Frankfurt with a delay of 40 minutes at 4:45 pm. We were on Discover Air, an odd spin off of Lufthansa, and manned by Lufthansa crew. We had a pleasant evening meal but were disappointed to find that we were in a row of four rather than a two, which we had hoped . David had a man beside him who overflowed out of his seat into David’s seat Neither of us got very much sleep and then the breakfast was quite disgusting , a microwaved pastry sandwich and chocolate bun. Chris did not have any.

Arriving at Frankfurt an hour later than planned we still had two hours to connect with our flight to Valencia. We boarded this before 3 pm and were promptly asked to disembark as it had a technical problem that could not be fixed in time . But, to give Lufthansa their due, they did manage to get us on to another plane with only an hour delay. That meant we landed at Valencia around 7 pm and we’re home in the dark before 9 pm.

Weight in next morning showed Chris has not put on any weight, but David had put on 4 pounds which will have to come off before we go to Malta
