Sep 10 - Sea Day - Smoking Hills

We arrived opposite the Smoking |Hills about 9 am. The visibility was not great but the ship stopped so they had a marvellous view of this phenomenon. We were less impressed having seen much the same effect in Turkmenistan but we did enjoy the fresh air out on deck

There was also a sighting of a bow head whale but this was mainly restricted to the occasional blow from the whale.

There was a talk by Lea on life under the ice: she really adored her sponges and other organisms that lived on the ocean bed. Chris had a swim before lunch. After lunch she had a siesta before playing Bridge for 70 minutes, then had to abandon it because Chloe had timed trivia for 3.15. We watched Jessica‘s talk on the value of natural resources in the cabin before going to the show lounge to hear Margaret talk on her Arctic experiences..

Then afternoon tea, a quick walk round the decks, chatting to Bernardo en route, more viewing and reading time in the cabin. Then a recap and briefing, there was little of the latter. We had dinner with Margaret and Liz in the Terresa and then a quick coffee in panorama lounge before Chloe started her show there.
