Castillo Buen Amor

Castillo del Buen Amor is a castle surrounded by gardens and vineyards located near Salamanca. A 15th century building that lives up to its name in every detail, every room, every corner. We had stayed here many years ago when I cycled from Seville to Santiago

Vaulted-ceiling rooms, terraces and turrets. Its baseman restaurant, is completely vaulted and has a Castilian cuisine, in which regional products stand out.

Strolling through the corridors or through the Gothic-Renaissance courtyard, will make you move to another era.

June 25th.

MORAIRA to BUEN AMOR. Arrived at the Castillo del Buen Amor hotel just after 4pm after a 6 and a half hour drive from Moraira.

Room 5 was very impressive, but dark and the round bedroom was down ten narrow, uneven stone stairs with scant headroom.

We ate our picnic lunch, had a coffee and went out to the swimming pool, lurking in the moat. Here a moronic lifeguard informed us that towels were only available from reception. We did without. I had a really pleasant swim and then sat drying for a while. Then we sat outside the castle with a glass of wine and some tapas before a short siesta and dinner down in the dungeon restaurant. We had a so called degustation menu, but in reality it was just three courses. My chick pea starter was somewhat bland, and too large, but then my monkfish had an acerbic sauce dominating it, .so was left. Finally the tarta de la abuela was disappointing.

Afterwards we sat outside again enjoying a glass of wine. A good day despite my foodie hiccups.
