Life on board

On board life has a certain rhythm/predictability to it. On each leg there is a Welcome, Venetian Society and Farewell. But now that thee are no actual formal dinners when one eats with ships officers or expedition staff, these presentations have little point, and indeed numbers of passengers attending them was quite low

Wine tastings

Given we had the onboard credit, we went to all 5 tastings that were on offer while we were on board. Pavlo, the Head Sommelier, was good, did his homework, and knew more than most of the punters. He went to a lot of trouble to put on different tastings, which was entirely for my benefit

Lunch

Each leg had the German Lunch at Hot Rocks with a suckling pig and German sausages. There was one British "pub lunch" which was not repeated (we wold quite liked it to have been). A very good "changeover " lunch in La Dame for he 6 of us who were continuing on the next leg.

We tended to go to Terrazza for the roast of the day for lunch. But later on Chris decided that lunch in the main dining room was preferable. The secret in where ever you ate, and in order to get a nice table, was to go early or late

This and that

Odd bits and pieces, from a pod of whales outside our cabin, to the polar plunge (you would not catch me doing that). The last photo here is of the ship "surfing" with a following gale and a following swell. It was impressive to see the bow right out of the water

Dinner

We tended to mix dinner venues quite a lot. I was very grateful to the maitre d for looking after us so well

Breakfast

It was only in the Caribbean that we could get breakfast outside

Panorama Lounge

We are looked after here too, with extra large plates of canapes. Most evenings we went here for a cocktail before dinner

Zodiacs

Getting a dozen or more zodiacs into the water for each excursion was a skilled operation
