Tromso

Located in the far north of Norway,. Despite its remote location, you'll discover a surprisingly cosmopolitan city. Sat 250 miles above the Arctic Circle - at 69° north - you can bathe in the midnight sun's glow during summer, before winter brings the thick blackness and starry skies of endless polar nights.

To get the best view over the city, take the cable car to Storsteinen's amazing viewpoint. Magnificent views down over the city, fjord and Tromso's arching bridge will unravel before you. "

Unfortunately the top station of the cable car was in the mist, but that did not stop the tour operators sending us up, and allocation an hour' stop there in the mist. We actually came straight back down, and sat at the bottom until the scheduled departure of our bus. But we thought the Arctic Church was truly beautiful and enjoyed the Polar Museum with all its history of hunting for polar bears. We went back to the ship for lunch (the ship being moored here - this being the end of our 4th leg) and then wandered round the town for a couple of hours in the afternoon.
