Bonacca, Honduras

We stopped at Bonacca, a wee island just off Guanaja Island which lies in the Bay Islands of Honduras. It is about 70 kilometres off the north coast of Honduras, and 12 kilometres (7.5 mi) from the island of Roatan. Bonacca contains most of the approximately 10,000 people who live in Guanaja. The densely populated cay has, as has Oak Ridge, been described as the Venice of Honduras because of the waterways that run through it. The primary source of income for the islanders is fishing and shrimping.

I never really got to the bottom of why they all crammed onto this tiny offshore island, while there would have been plenty of room to build onshore
