Toledo is a historic city in Castilla La Mancha, sitting majestically above the Tagus River and denoted a UNESCO heritage site in 1986. It is set on a hill above the plains of Castilla-La Mancha in central Spain. The capital of the region, it’s known for the medieval Arab, Jewish and Christian monuments in its walled old city. It was also the former home of Mannerist painter El Greco.
The history of Toledo dates back to Roman occupation circa 192 B.C. The ruins of the Roman circus are still visible just outside the walls of the city. Roman occupation was followed by Visigoth rule, Muslim rule and finally the Reconquest of Toledo in 1085AD. Toledo was the capital of the Spanish empire until the mid-1500s when the royal court moved to Madrid.
The winding, cobbled streets of the old town are often crowded with locals and tourists, as well as a surprisingly large number of cars and vans. A splendid 13th century cathedral. The Alcázar, which sits atop the town, dates back to Roman times.

We stayed at Eugenia de Montijo which was in the centre of the town. The plus point was that we could walk round the town easily from the hotel, but the minus point was that parking was a nightmare.
In theory there is a public parking garage close by, but it is a long and tortuous route you have to follow to get back there once you have found the hotel. At the weekend this Public Garage was full and we could not use it. Asking where we could park, the receptionist was disingenuous, and suggested nearby streets- where he knew full well we could not park. Eventually I found a spot some 600 meters away
A strange hotel. In theory very nice, but with staff lacking in any empathy. There was a very nice bar/lounge area, but the bar did not have any staff on duty - I had to go to reception to get a drink. The dinner was reasonable at 25 euro for the fixed price meal, but the staff seemed hell bent on getting through us as quickly as possible.
I don't think I would stay here if I was looking for a hotel in Toledo in the future
