Given that there was Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Years Eve, Captains Welcome, Captains Farewell and Venetian Society dinners, there were more than the average number of formal dinners. We had interesting dinners with the Deputy Expedition Leader, the Hotel Director, the First Officer and a couple of the Expedition Staff. I did genuinely enjoy them all, though they were each quite different experiences.
For example I know much more now about the governing of Bulgaria now, and the problems within the country than I did before. And indeed I know much more about the challenges of running a small ship's kitchens catering to produce a gourmet menu.
I was not sure whether the Hotel Director had made the selection of our tables at random, or whether there was a grand plan behind it !
Christmas Eve was the high point for the Boyzz - after all these years they finally caught up with Father Christmas (or maybe it was he who caught u with them). You cannot get a lot of presents into christmas stockings that are their size, but the thought was there, and they had plenty to eat as well.
