En Route to Central America

We had to stay overnight near Gatwick, as our flight to Mexico left before any of the Spanish flights could have got us into Gatwick. If you need to stay overnight for a LGW flight, then Trumbles is the place to stay. We stayed for one night to catch our early flight out of LGW.

They will both pick you up from, and deliver you back to, LGW, all included in their price. It is all very efficient and well organised, and very little hanging around is required

It is not luxurious, but the rooms are clean, warm and recently decorated. Breakfast was very nice and it delivers very good value for money

They do not offer dinner, so you have to walk to the local pub for dinner, if , like us, you do not have your own car there. In mid winter this is a bit challenging in the dark - no pavement and a low power torch - but we managed it, and the pub offers a nice atmosphere in its restaurant

We thoroughly recommend Trumbles and will stay here again, the next time we need an overnight at LGW

Trumbles is a B&B, so quite naturally they do not do dinner. Stephen joined us there and we walked, with some difficulty (this being a dark October night) the half mile down to the Half Moon at Charlwood. The 3 of us had an evening meal here. Typical pub food with a good atmosphere

Because of an early flight the next day, we booked a table for their stated opening time of 18.00. However the serving staff did not come on duty till 45 minutes later, and the barman had to deal with the 3 tables in the restaurant in the interim. He was clearly out of his depth, and did not know the daily special, nor was he prepared to go into the kitchen to ask. Basically they should not have taken bookings before 19.00

Having said that the meal was fine, was reasonably priced and there was a bright atmosphere to the place

So off to Gatwick and the heady delights of Business Class, and the over-indulgence of the Business Lounge at Gatwick. Early morning is probably more suitable for bacon and eggs than gin and tonic, but what the heck. The boys certainly always enjoy the business lounges, and have to be restrained from over indulging. Our flight to Cancun , on the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico, was a daylight flight, getting in before dark happily, as that gave me some time to adjust to the Mexican roads before night fell.

Thus we arrived at Cancun, picked up the Hertz car and headed for our hotel at Tulum.
